Choosing a course is one of the first major decisions you need to make when planning to study abroad. If you are considering Malta, you will find courses in several fields, including business, information technology, engineering, healthcare, tourism, hospitality, and creative subjects.

For Indian students, the best courses to study in Malta are not necessarily the courses that are simply popular. Your previous education, career plans, budget, and personal interests should all be considered before making a decision.

Malta has institutions such as the University of Malta and Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST), offering a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Top Courses to Study in Malta in 2026

1. Information Technology and Computer Science

Technology continues to be an attractive field for students who want to build careers in the digital sector. In Malta, students can find programs related to software development, computer science, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other areas of IT.

This can be a good option if you already have a background in computer science or simply have a strong interest in technology.

Before choosing a program, check the subjects covered in the course. Some programs may focus more on programming, while others may be centered around cybersecurity, AI, or information systems.

2. Business and Management

Business and management are among the more flexible choices for students because these subjects can lead to different career paths.

Indian students can look at areas such as business administration, management, marketing, entrepreneurship, and related fields. These courses can be particularly relevant for students who have completed 12th in commerce or already hold a business-related degree.

If you are not looking for a highly specialized technical course, business can be worth considering because the knowledge can be useful across different industries.

3. Finance and Accounting

Finance and accounting can be a natural choice for students with a commerce or business background.

Courses in this area can help students understand accounting, financial management, business operations, and related concepts. If you have completed a B.Com or another commerce-related qualification, you may find these programs particularly relevant.

However, always check the specific entry requirements of the institution before applying, as they can differ from one course to another.

4. Healthcare and Nursing

Healthcare is another field that Indian students can consider when looking at the best courses in Malta for international students.

Depending on the institution, students may find programs related to nursing, health sciences, biomedical science, and other healthcare areas.

If you are interested in healthcare, don't select a course only because it appears to be in demand. Check the qualification requirements, course structure, and any professional or regulatory requirements that may apply to the program.

5. Engineering

Engineering can be a suitable option for students who have a technical background and enjoy subjects such as mathematics, physics, and technology.

Depending on the institution, students may find programs connected with mechanical, electrical, electronics, construction, automotive, aviation, and other engineering fields.

For students coming from an engineering background in India, it is important to compare the course content with their previous qualification before applying.

6. Tourism and Hospitality

Malta is known for its tourism industry, which makes tourism and hospitality interesting areas for students who want to work in travel, hotels, events, or related services.

Courses in this field can cover areas such as hospitality management, tourism operations, and customer service.

This could be a good choice if you enjoy interacting with people and are interested in the travel and hospitality industry.

7. Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity

If you are interested in technology but want to specialize in a particular area, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity are worth exploring.

These fields are becoming increasingly important as businesses depend more heavily on digital systems and data.

For students with a strong interest in computers, programming, mathematics, or technology, specialized programs in AI or cybersecurity may offer an interesting alternative to a general IT course.

8. Aviation and Maritime Studies

Malta also offers opportunities in specialized areas such as aviation and maritime studies.

These courses may appeal to students who do not want to follow the usual business or IT route and are interested in technical or transport-related industries.

Because these are specialized fields, make sure you understand the course requirements and possible career pathways before making your final decision.

9. Creative Arts and Design

Not every student wants to study business, engineering, or IT. If you have a creative background, Malta also has study options related to design, fashion, photography, media, and other creative fields.

These courses can be particularly suitable for students who prefer practical and creative learning.

Before applying, take a close look at the course portfolio requirements, practical projects, and assessment methods, as these can be important for creative programs.

10. Science and Applied Sciences

Students with a science background can also consider programs in science and applied sciences.

Depending on the institution, options may include areas related to biomedical science, environmental studies, agriculture, and other scientific disciplines.

This can be a good route for students who want to continue in a science-related field rather than switching completely to business or management.

In-Demand Courses in Malta: Should You Choose One?

You may come across many articles talking about in-demand courses in Malta. While this information can be useful, it should not be the only factor behind your decision.

For example, IT or healthcare may look attractive from a career perspective, but that does not automatically mean they are suitable for every student.

Your academic background and genuine interest in the subject should come first. Once you have shortlisted courses that match your profile, you can then compare their career relevance, fees, duration, and future opportunities.

Why Should Indian Students Consider Studying in Malta?

Malta can be an interesting option for Indian students who want to pursue higher education in Europe.

One of the advantages for many international students is the availability of programs taught in English. Students can also find both academic and practical study options depending on their chosen institution and course.

The University of Malta offers programs across areas such as business, health, science, technology, humanities, and social sciences. MCAST, on the other hand, has a strong focus on practical and career-oriented education.

This gives students different options depending on whether they prefer a more academic route or a hands-on learning experience.

How to Choose the Right University in Malta?

Once you have decided on your preferred course, don't immediately apply to the first institution you find.

Take some time to compare:

• Course modules
• Course duration
• Tuition fees
• Entry requirements
• English-language requirements
• Institution reputation
• Practical training or internship opportunities
• Location and accommodation options

Most importantly, read the official course information before making a final decision. Requirements can vary between institutions and even between different programs at the same institution.

Which Course Is Best for You?

The best courses to study in Malta for Indian students depend on the individual student.

If you have a commerce background, you may want to explore business, accounting, or finance. Students with a computer science background can consider IT, AI, or cybersecurity. Science students may look at healthcare or science-related programs, while students with a technical background can explore engineering.

If you are still unsure, don't worry. Shortlisting a course usually becomes easier once you clearly understand your academic profile, career goal, and budget.
